Guns for women?

My husband recently deployed, and I want to go out and buy a gun, you know for my protection. I am just curious of what kind I can get (thats not super expensive). No, it doesn't have to be a girly gun, I was in the military and I am completely capable of shooting anything...but at the same time I am not in the military and do not want a gun with a big recoil. I like stuff "cute"
