How do I disinfect a stick for my atiel?

I found a stick outside that would be perfect for his cage. I removed all the bark and sanded it down real good. How do I disinfect it for him? Do I need to at all? He is 5 months old and I just got him two weeks ago and it's my first bird so I'm not sure what to do.
